In memory of Boxes...

Is it considered bad taste to make a box in memory of someone who has
passed on?

I've seen it done in CT for both people and pets that
passed on. I don't consider it in bad tast. It all
depends on your feelings and what you think the
deceased would have liked......Chuck and Molly

We just had a new box in CT by Chrissy who honored her mom who had passed away from breast cancer, entitled Janet's Letterbox. I feel it's a nice way to honor the memory of the death of a loved one. Some of our most meaningful finds have been those in cemeteries and in honor of those gone before us.

Have fun and just get out there & box!!!

I created a hitchhiker in memory of my late husband's infamously electro green and black truck (the Pusmobile). I hoped it would travel to places he never got to go...

So, I think if it is done in the right way, it can be fine.
I think he would have liked the Pusmobile HH.

I don't think so. I made one in honor of my very good friend and I've seen others as well.
I think it honors them.

However, I wondered. My friend, Mary's, family knows nothing about letterboxing. Should I let them know about this or not?

Thanks.

I don't think so, if it is done by a close relative like a mother, daughter
husband etc.

I did one for my daughter's shower which was a tea in NH. We are from LI.
So why not for someone's death. It sure is a changing stage we will all pass
though.

I don't think so. I'm doing one for my Mom who passed in February.

I think it's a nice gesture. There is a box in Virginia called A Flower
for Mildred that is just that sort of sentiment, and I hunted for it
specifically because of the sweet nature of its remembrance.

Best,

The first box we found was placed in memory of a man who had passed
away, and placed in an area that is just breathtaking. The clues and
logbook spoke of a man who was Loved. We still visit it on occasion,
and I'm never anything less than amazed by the beauty of the
surroundings, and I somehow get the feeling that part of Tom is there.

I think a letterbox is a fitting tribute. Be sure to place it in a
safe spot.

I agree with catbead make sure it's in a place that no way would
turn up missing. When the day comes I'm willing my personal stamp
to a box I'll already have waiting. That way I'll stamp on in
spirit.

I think that a memorial letterbox is a great idea ...
what better way to celebrate someone's life than to
get out in the beauty of nature?

My second plant, Lillypad, was in memory of my inlaws.
The park that it's planted in was the place they met,
and continued to vacation in every year until my FIL's
death 10 years ago. My husband has fond memories of
the park, and whenever we go up to do box maintenence,
he ends up talking about the happy memories he had
there.

It's a healing process for him, and a chance for
others to see the beauty that so touched our family
for so many years.

Sorry I sound so sappy ... but Memorial boxes are
definately a plus in my humble opinion.

I planted a letterbox along a trail that had a bridge that was built
on the trail as a memorial. I used the bridge in my clue. The
gentleman's widow and daughter were doing a google search of their
family name and found my letterbox clue that mentioned the bridge.
They were so happy to have the letterbox along the trail and were
introduced to letterboxing through my box.
I had planted the box, so that people would visit that area. The
family of this man also wanted people to visit and enjoy an area that
he had enjoyed. So I think Memorial boxes are a good thing! Just as
people put up memorial benches and bridges in parks, a letterbox is
just another form of expression.
